The Wahoo - Pullum's Award-winning Swim Team!

This September, we want to recognize many members (and some participants) who have inspired us this entire summer – our Wahoo Swim Team.  This group of youngsters has worked harder and longer than most of us can even believe.  Just picture yourself, not just being out of bed, but being at a pool, swimming at a competitive level at 5:45 am.  Our older group of “Wahoo” did that five days a week from April through July.  Then our younger group took up the slack starting at the “late” time of 7am each day.

Under the expert leadership of our coach, Mary Moorer, and our volunteer coach, Maurie Reynolds, the Wahoo have excelled this summer.  They have won championships in all categories – male, female and overall.  These young people work hard and train hard.  If you pass by the Y early on any weekday morning, you will see them.  As if that wasn’t enough, they come back to the pool in the evenings and do it all again.  This swim team teaches them about working as a team, as well as competing as individuals.  They learn to master every competitive stroke and how to work their magic in a relay.

We are so proud of this group of youngsters. Many of us know that our work and training ethic pales in comparison to theirs.  If you look up the Y definition of “youth development,” a picture of our Wahoo would surely be there. They spend their summer vacation working to progress in their sport.  They spend their summer vacation training at the Y so that some of them can swim on the high school team.  They spend their summer vacation making their parents and coaches proud.

Way to go Wahoo…each of you are in our spotlight this month.
