From the Sports
Desk
By Doug Johnson
Program Director
Fall soccer
season is under way and we had our first games this past
Saturday. Our large group of
players is mainly under the age of 6, and is having fun
while learning to be healthy and work as a team. We are
blessed to have the opportunity to guide these
youngsters toward a healthy lifestyle and be a part of their
development.
Registration
for flag football and girls’ volleyball opens Sept. 1. Our
hope is that both of these sports will draw many youngsters
to learn, compete and generally have fun, the Y way. Also
starting in September is our home school PE class. We are
very excited to have personal trainer, Mandy Andre’,
returning to instruct this class for us. Mandy is planning
to have some very new and exciting programs for the home
school crowd. She will be using the same resources that are
used in the public school PE classes to plan her curriculum.
The
sports/programming department is heating up. As the new
director, I am very excited and grateful to be a part of
this Y and this community. I look forward to working with
all of our wonderful volunteers and to bringing some new
ideas, and more important, stability to this department.
Good things are in the works!
