As part of our
efforts to focus on values, we have also aligned our efforts
with those of the Search Institute, a non-profit
organization that has conducted long-range studies of
250,000 U.S. teens to discover the types of experiences that
help children become happy, healthy and productive adults.
The result of that research has been the identification of
what the Institute calls 40 Developmental Assets, 40 key
factors that, if present, significantly increase a child's
chance at becoming a success. Simply put, the more assets a
child has, the better his or her chances for success.
Parents and other caregivers such as the YMCA now have a
“road map” to help our children develop.
The YMCA is focusing on helping to build assets in the
children we serve by emphasizing our four core values of
caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in our programs.
We invite you to learn more about how you can positively
affect the lives of your own children and children who are
important in your life.
